An extract from
Winnie the Pooh
by AA Milne
Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump,
bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher
Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming
downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another
way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it.
He is now at the bottom, and ready to be introduced to you.
“Pooh!” said Christopher Robin.
“Yes,” said the Bear.
“When I call your name, you must say, ‘Yes, dear, I’m
here,’ and then I shall know where you are.”
“All right,” said Pooh, “but I’ll always be where you are, so
you mustn’t be too clever about this.”
Pooh, who was a bear of very little brain, liked to keep
things simple.
