The Adventures of Pinocchio

The Adventures of Pinocchio

from Carlo Collodi

Once upon a time there was a piece of wood. It was not a

beautiful piece of wood, but just an ordinary piece of wood that

people used for making furniture.

One day, a poor old carpenter named Geppetto found the

piece of wood and thought he would make a little wooden

puppet.

“His name shall be Pinocchio,” said Geppetto. “He will be

a wonderful little puppet.”

He began to carve the wood, making

the face, mouth, chin, and then the neck,

the shoulders, the arms, and the legs.

Suddenly something very strange

happened. The puppet moved his eyes,

laughed, and began to make faces.

The old carpenter was very

surprised, but he was also happy. He

hoped that his little puppet would bring

him joy.
